•  9 a.m. – The Legislative-Citizen Commission on Minnesota Resources meets. Room 5, State Office Building.
•  9:15 a.m. (EST) – George Washington University’s Trachtenberg School of Public Policy and Public Administration hosts “Walter Mondale: A Living Legacy.” The symposium will explore the domestic and foreign policy issues central to the legacy of Vice President Mondale. Panels will cover topics such as the Mondale Vice Presidency, reconciling national security and the U.S. Constitution, and the fight for civil rights.
•  9:30 a.m. – The Legislative Commission on Data Practices meets to discuss Real ID, DPS Data Breach and other future meeting topics. Basement Hearing Room, State Office Building.
•  12:30 p.m. – Minnesota Secretary of State Steve Simon will convene the fourth meeting of the Elections Emergency Planning Task Force, which was created by the legislature to ensure that Minnesota is prepared if a natural disaster, blizzard, or other large scale incident occurs affecting an election. Room 10, State Office Building.
•  6 p.m. (EST) – Celebrating Fritz: An Evening with Walter Mondale. Four Seasons Hotel, Washington, D.C. Dinner Co-chairs: The Honorable Jimmy Carter, The Honorable Madeleine Albright; United States Senators Dianne Feinstein, Al Franken, Amy Klobuchar, Patrick Leahy; and Minnesota Governor Mark Dayton.

•  Oct. 22 – State Rep. Leon Lillie (DFL – North St. Paul), Rep. Peter Fischer (DFL-Maplewood), Rep. JoAnn Ward (DFL-Woodbury), and Sen. Chuck Wiger (DFL-Maplewood) are hosting a pollinator policy forum which will be moderated by Rep. Rick Hansen (DFL-South St. Paul) at 6:30 p.m. at the Maplewood Community Center.
•  Oct. 24 – The DFL African American Caucus will hold its monthly meet at 10 a.m. at East Lake Library, 2727 E Lake St., Minneapolis.

Donald Trump and Ben Carson now stand alone at the top of the Republican field, as Carly Fiorina’s brief foray into the top tier of candidates seeking the GOP nomination for president appears to have ended. A new CNN/ORC poll finds Fiorina has lost 11 points in the last month, declining from 15 percent support and second place to 4 percent and a tie for seventh place.

At the same time, Carson has gained eight points and joins Trump as the only candidates in the field with support above 20 percent. As in early September before Fiorina’s spike in support, Trump and Carson are the first choice candidate of about half of the potential Republican electorate. All told, nearly two-thirds of Republican voters choose Trump or Carson as either their first or second choice for the nomination.

No other candidates made significant gains since the last CNN/ORC poll conducted just after the Republican debate hosted by CNN and the Ronald Reagan Presidential Library. CNN
