March 24 Legislative Update from Rep. Selcer

Earlier this afternoon, we received this update from Rep. Selcer:
Things at our capitol have been very busy as we continue working on the issues important to Minnesotans. I wanted to take a moment to update you on some of the bills I have been working on.
Tax Relief Update:
The House had been working hard this year to pass a tax relief package as soon as possible. I’m pleased to share with you that the tax relief bill has passed. This bill includes $430 million in tax relief for Minnesotans. More than 1.2 million Minnesotans will get a tax break in the form of federal tax conformity, business-to-business tax repeals, and increased support for the Working Family Tax Credit.
Minnesota is one of only two states in the country with a gift tax, and I authored legislation this session to eliminate that tax, and bring more federal conformity to the estate tax. I was pleased to see the gift tax repealed in the tax bill, and that the estate exemption increased from $1 to $2 million.
I’ll have more information to you on the particulars of this tax bill soon. (more…)

Rep. Yvonne Selcer to seek re-election
No comments · Posted by SD48 DFL Communications Team in Candidates, News, Rep. Yvonne Selcer
State Rep. Yvonne Selcer of Minnetonka announced at our March 10 convention that she will be running for re-election this year. She was elected in 2012 to a two-year term. “I believe that my reputation as an independent, pro-business voice in the Legislature will continue to serve our community members well,” she said.
Rep. Selcer was the chief author of the bill requiring the state to pay back what was owed to schools as a result of borrowing by the previous legislatures. She also co-authored the bill to add all-day kindergarten. She also said that work on education is a natural extension of her work as a teacher and eight years on the Hopkins School Board as a director, treasurer and chair.
Rep. Selcer is also a member of the bi-partisan House Small Business Caucus.
“I am proud of my accomplishments and look forward to continuing the positive, bi-partisan work that was done for the residents of northern Eden Prairie and southern Minnetonka in my first term,” she said.
