The DFL doesn’t provide endorsements in judicial races, where a non-partisan court is something the party believes is critical for our state and community.
That said, there has been a lot of interest in judicial elections this year. In particular, the 4th District Court races. On the ballot this year are 4 judicial races.
We did provide some information on those races in this post earlier this year.
But, we continue to receive questions on the 4th District Court 61 race between Amy Dawson and Beverly J. Aho.
Both individuals were invited to attend a Senate District 48 DFL meeting. Ms. Dawson did speak to the group. Ms. Aho was unable to attend, but did send a letter which was read to the group.
Sharon Borine met with both individuals. She says, “I spoke with both Ms. Dawson and Ms. Aho about their background in the law. This is what they told me:
Beverly J. Aho has practiced law since 2006. She’s on record with less than 20 cases before the bar. She practices law with the James H. Gilbert Law Group. Here is a link to that firm’s website.
Amy Dawson has practiced law since 1992. She’s on record with hundreds of cases before the bar.
Ms. Dawson started practicing law at Faegre & Benson in 1992. She has served over 1,000 clients and has practiced complex civil, business and probate litigation, juvenile and family law and mediation. She is currently the Executive Director of the Autism Advocacy & Law Center in Minneapolis.”
Faegre & Benson is now Faegre, Baker, Daniels. Here’s a link to their website. Here’s a link to the Autism Advocacy & Law Center website.

We’ve also found that on September 22, 2014, the Hennepin County Bar Association released the results of it’s contested judicial races poll. Ms. Dawson won that poll.
Both candidates have websites and Facebook pages and listing on the Minnesota Courts website:
Beverly J. Aho: http://www.beverlyahoforjudge.com/, https://www.facebook.com/BeverlyJAhoforJudge and http://www.mncourts.gov/mars/AttorneyDetail.aspx?attyID=0386521
Amy Dawson: http://www.amydawsonforjudge.com/, https://www.facebook.com/AutismAttorney and http://www.mncourts.gov/mars/AttorneyDetail.aspx?attyID=0228266
We do have to point out the following. As we said, the DFL doesn’t endorse candidates for judicial races. We’re not certain if the Senate District 48 GOP does in these situation. On October 15, we did do a screen capture of their website.
We see Ms. Aho presented prominently, but no mention of Ms. Dawson.
