Steve Cwodzinski

Steve Cwodzinski

Our local state Senator, Steve Cwodzinski, is hosting a town hall meeting this Saturday, from 9am to 10am at the Eden Prairie High School (Room number 212).

Steve has done a fantastic job representing us for these last couple months as our new Senator, so come out to have a discussion with him about what has been happening in St. Paul this year.

The StarTribune Editorial Board has endorsed Laurie Pryor for the HD48A seat, posting the following on their website November 1, 2016:

When state Rep. Yvonne Selcer unexpectedly announced in April that she would not seek a third term in her Minnetonka-Eden Prairie district, Laurie Pryor realized that she was well-suited to run in her stead. As a retired communications and management consultant and 27-year resident of the district, Pryor is well-versed in state and local issues. As a DFL activist, she had already doorknocked the district many times.

We share Pryor’s self-assessment. She’s a strong candidate who deserves election over Republican Mary Shapiro, who recently retired after 35 years teaching in the Minneapolis Public Schools.

The StarTribune has endorsed Steve Cwodzinski for the SD48 seat in an endorsement appearing on their website October 31, 2016, and in print November 1, 2016:

steve-cwod-startribune-endorsed-2016Senate GOP Minority Leader David Hann is in the toughest re-election fight of his 14-year legislative career for two good reasons. One: Hann’s positions on issues — particularly on Southwest light rail — are out of sync with those of many residents in his Eden Prairie district. And two: He has an uncommonly appealing opponent in DFLer Steve Cwodzinski.

Our nod goes to challenger Cwodzinski, a recently retired government teacher at Eden Prairie High School. Hann’s dedication to public service and his willingness to shoulder leadership responsibilities for his caucus in the past four years are admirable. But Eden Prairie would be well-served by the passion for public problem-solving that Cwodzinski would bring to the Legislature.

Cwodzinski reminded us of another educator who took on an entrenched Republican incumbent. Like the late U.S. Sen. Paul Wellstone, Cwodzinski, 58, exudes infectious enthusiasm for democracy and optimism about its potential to make lives better. (more…)

Cwodzinski Earns Endorsement of
Vice President Mondale and Governor Carlson

Join Steve and Gov. Carlson Saturday, October 22, at 9:00 am
Steve Cwodzinski has earned new bi-partisan endorsements from Vice President Walter Mondale and Republican Governor Arne Carlson.

“Steve represents the kind of candidate I’ve been proud to support throughout my career,” Mondale said in a statement. “He is a hard working, service-oriented person who will govern with fiscal responsibility and an eye for opportunity. In this era of reactionary and incendiary politics, Steve’s optimism and common sense will allow him to reach across the aisle and get results for the people in his district. I am pleased to endorse Steve Cwodzinski for Minnesota Senate.”

Vice President Walter Mondale is one of the most well-known and respected political figures in Minnesota.  Throughout his distinguished career, Vice President Mondale routinely put his constituents above party.

As a popular two-term governor of Minnesota, Governor Carlson worked across party lines to pass meaningful legislation to grow the economy and improve the lives of every day Minnesotans.

“Minnesota has a reputation as a good-government state, a place where reasonable people can enact reasonable policies. Steve Cwodzinski is just that kind of reasonable person.” Carlson said in his endorsement. “Steve has the open minded, common sense approach that will rise above partisan gridlock and focus on the challenges and opportunities facing Minnesota families. And, importantly, Steve is personally committed to sound, long-term financial planning that ends the cycle of crisis budget cuts and surplus spending. Steve Cwodzinski will serve the people of his district with integrity and prudence.”

“I’m honored by the endorsement of two of Minnesota’s pre-eminent statesmen.” Steve Cwodzinski said. “Both Governor Carlson and Vice President Mondale are champions of good governance and real world role models of a bi-partisan approach. In a political arena full of gridlock and winner-take-all politics, these endorsements represent the hope and passion I will bring to the Minnesota Senate. I look forward to meeting the challenges ahead and creating new opportunities for Minnesota families to thrive.”

Governor Carlson will join Steve Cwodzinski at a meet and greet event for campaign volunteers on Saturday, October 22 at the Minnetonka Community Center. Governor Carlson and Steve Cwodzinski will give brief remarks and take questions before a volunteer training and door knock.
