Americans for Responsible Solutions, the political action committee created by former congresswoman Gabby Giffords to combat gun violence, will pump money into the U.S. Senate race between Democratic incumbent Al Franken and GOP challenger Mike McFadden. The group will spend $131,000 to send direct-mail pamphlets to voters this fall to support Franken, who backs a ban on many assault-style weapons. Giffords resigned from the House in 2012. She was shot in the head on Jan. 8, 2011, during a shooting rampage in Tucson, Ariz., that killed six people and wounded 13. The buy came just days after the National Rifle Association Political Victory Fund endorsed McFadden. Star Tribune
