Minnesota parents speak out about value of education in new ad from DFL

In a television ad released today by the DFL, Minnesota parents share their doubts that education is a priority to Republican gubernatorial candidate Jeff Johnson:

“When you look at Jeff Johnson’s record on education, the parents’ concerns are justified,” said DFL Chairman Ken Martin. “Johnson voted to cut $21 million from early childhood education. A young parent in the ad said those cuts would be ‘devastating’ to her family; another parent with an older child makes the point that ‘our children are our future.’”

The ad also highlights Johnson’s $600 million cuts to education. This is worrisome to parents who want to see Minnesota’s education system move forward, not back.

In contrast since being elected to office, Gov. Mark Dayton has increased education spending by almost $1 billion. In the past two years alone, Gov. Dayton and a DFL majority in the Legislature have bolstered Minnesota’s education system through early childhood education scholarships and all-day kindergarten.

“This election is about shared values, and Minnesotans value a quality education system,” Martin said. “Before he was running for office, Gov. Dayton said he would invest in education every year he was in office and he kept his word to Minnesotans. When Gov. Dayton had a DFL House and Senate to work with, he took his commitment even further with the first major investments in our youngest learners.

“Gov. Dayton’s record reinforces to parents that their children’s education is his top priority. Having an educated workforce will help Minnesota create and retain jobs and expand the middle class. Gov. Dayton is a man of his word and a leader we can trust.”

The DFL will spend over $1 Million dollars on this ad campaign which will air in all five Minnesota media markets – the Twin Cities, Duluth, Rochester, Mankato, and Fargo/Moorhead.
