This morning, the Minnesota Department of Employment and Development (DEED) announced the state had added 7,200 jobs during September of 2014. That brings the State’s unemployment rate down to 4.1%, the lowest point it’s been at in 8 years.

Here’s more numbers:

7,200 – The number of new jobs added in Minnesota during the month of September

172,000 – The number of jobs Minnesota has added since January 2011

4.1% – Minnesota’s unemployment rate has dropped to 4.1%

6.8% – Minnesota’s unemployment rate when Gov. Dayton took office in 2011

2006 – The last time Minnesota’s unemployment rate was this low was September, 2006

50 – Minnesota has now experienced 50 consecutive months of over-the-year job growth (that’s over 4 years, folks)

Gov. Dayton, speaking about this report, said, “Our state’s many successful businesses and their hard-working employees deserve the credit for Minnesota’s strong and continuing economic growth. Today’s jobs report offers still more evidence that their success and hard work are moving our state in the right direction.”

He went on to say, “Since January, 2011, Minnesota has added over 172,000 new jobs. But, we cannot be satisfied yet. There is still more work to do to grow our economy, and create more good jobs for Minnesotans.”

DEED Commissioner Katie Clark Sieben added this about the jobs report:  “As of September, it has been exactly 5 years since Minnesota’s employment level hit the recessionary low. Since then, our state has added 212,800 jobs, enough to put us 53,800 jobs above our pre-recessionary peak. With 50 consecutive months of over-the-year job growth, Minnesota’s economy is showing signs of consistent, broad-based progress.”
