Illegal Campaign Sign Placements and Halloween

Selcer SignHowe-Pullis-Twitter-Header-2014It’s that time of year when we see a lot of illegal sign placements.  You can report these to your city to have them removed.  You cannot touch them yourself.

Eden Prairie Campaign Sign Basics:

  • Signs must be placed 12 feet (or 4 paces) from the road surfce

Minnetonka Campaign Sign Basics:

  • Signs may not be posted on publicly owned land
    • Not certain if a location is public or private? Visit this site,  enter an address nearby and hit search.
    • On the next screen, click on Interactive Map. You’ll be taken to a map highlighting the address you entered.
    • Click on the map, keep the button of your mouse down and pull in the direction of the area you want to review.
    • Once you’re in the area you want to review, click on the area.  On the left column, you’ll see the specifics of ownership for the property.  An area along streets belongs to the City, not the homeowner.
  • Signs must be at least 5 feet from the edge of a public street
  • Signs must not obstruct driver visibility at intersections
  • Signs must not be located within the right-of-way of state or county roads
  • On election day, signs on private property must be 100 feet from a polling place’s door where voters enter
  • On election day, signs on public property must not be within 100 feet of the building where polling is taking place or anywhere on the public property.
  • If you see illegal sign placements, contact David Maeda, City Clerk, at [email protected] or 952.939.8218.

Halloween

JackOLantern_8x8It’s not unusual to have lawn signs taken on the night of Halloween. If you have a sign for a candidate or signs for candidates you can easily move, please take them in that evening and put them out again the following morning.

If you should have a sign “grow legs”, contact the campaign to let them know you need a replacement asap.
