DFL48 | Restoring Common Sense Minnesota Values

* Joan Howe-Pullis *

I have worked in business for over 30 years and I know how important it is for us to have a strong voice at the capitol. Rep. Yvonne Selcer has done a good job at balancing all of our needs, and has contributed to helping more new jobs being created here in Minnesota, and in our area. At 3.8 percent unemployment, our metro area has one of the strongest economies in the nation.

The state’s budget has been balanced, and our budget reserves have been replenished. Selcer’s legislation to repeal the business to business tax is an important par of our economic rebound. Her opponent, Kirk Stensrud, who she defeated during the last election and is running again, voted for a budget plan that relied on shifts and one-time funding. Those accounting gimmicks lost Minnesota its AAA credit rating and left us with a $3.5 billion deficit. From deficit to surplus, from a negative credit rating to stable. Yvonne Selcer has earned a second term — I know I will be voting for her.

It is with much enthusiasm that I support the candidacy of Joan Howe-Pullis for state representative on Nov. 4, 2014. We first met three years ago when we were volunteers at Pax Christi Catholic Community. Joan was in many volunteer positions simultaneously. Joan brought innovation, a capable “Can Do” attitude and muscle to the job to be accomplished which will stand her in good stead at the State Capitol. Joan’s ability to juggle many responsibilities at the same time keeping competing interests happy was impressive. Again, a required skill at the State Capitol.

Joan’s passion for women’s issues both large and small, assures me that she will be the needed watch for women and children’s economic and social well-being in the state of Minnesota. Women and children need a strong voice when education and health-care policies are formed. Disagreeing without being disagreeable is the hallmark of accomplishing legislation. Joan has that skill.

Joan has been a small business owner so knows the hazards and happiness of running a business. She is acutely aware of the impact of taxes on small business owners, will champion their case at the State Capitol. She knows firsthand the importance of a robust economy and will work to make Minnesota an economic leader.

In this era of vitriol in the legislative process it behooves us as stewards of our state and country to send people of courage and character to represent us. Voting is a sacred right and as my mother said to me many years ago, “If you fought as hard as we did to get the vote, you would never think lightly of it.” So go to the polls on Nov. 4 and vote for Joan Howe-Pullis.

Support Joan Howe-Pullis

As a high school student, it sometimes feels like my voice goes unheard by current office holders once they find out I’m only 17 and am unable to vote for them. That being said, I make my voice heard in the only way I can:  by staying engaged, speaking out for the issues I care about and encouraging others to vote for candidates who will listen to the wants and needs to the whole community, not just those who vote. Joan Howe-Pullis is committed to giving all Eden Prairie residents a voice in the State Capitol.

I met Joan while I was campaigning for the Safe and Supportive Schools Act. Joan’s desires to listen and understand everybody, even those who she disagreed with, was inspiring. When Joan told me that she was running for state representative, I was ecstatic. I know she is the best person for the job. Now, more than ever, we need representatives who seek to understand both sides of an argument, make objective decisions, and most importantly listen to each and every person they represent.

Many other high school students have expressed the same sentiments to me. they are upset by the lack of consideration paid to them by current politicians, and want someone who will take it upon herself to listen to the opinions of everyone. The fact many fail to realize is that the decisions we make today affect our tomorrow, and failing to heed to the opinions of America’s future will prove to be disastrous for the children of today when we become the teachers, business owners, parents and minds of tomorrow.

When you go to the polls on Nov. 4, I humbly ask that you help give us a voice by voting for Joan Howe-Pullis.

Support Howe-Pullis in 48B

As a 22-year resident of Eden Prairie, I had the honor and privilege to run for state representative in District 48B during the last election. I am a loving wife and proud mother of three children/students that have been educated through our elementary to high school system in Eden Priarie.

I am asking the community to support Joan Howe-Pullis for state representative for District 48B. Joan understands a more prosperous community is created through the strength of our diversity. Joan Howe-Pullis will focus on issues that are very important to Eden Prairie residents and to all Minnesotans.

  • The advancement of education,
  • Economic opportunities for all citizens,
  • Comprehensive transportation needs.

If we truly want to make a difference and get many great initiatives accomplished in Eden Prairie and for the state of Minnesota, I ask you again to vote for Joan Howe-Pullis for state representative in District 48B on Nov. 4, 2014.
